Yogyakarta & Surabaya : Part 4 - Prambanan Temple

The walk to the bus station in Borobudur Town was very short. It was about a 10 minutes' walk. Actually slightly longer, as we stopped to snap photos.

The roads in Borobudur area has no divider. It uses a large cylindrical can.

The trishaws operated by motorcycles.

At 10am, we reached the bus station. There was only 1 bus at the station! And it was almost full. We were so lucky to catch that one last bus and we did not have to wait long. The bus ticket costs Rp20,000 per person.

The same gate we passed the before day. This time, it's 'Goodbye, Till we meet again'.

An hour later at 11am, we reached Jombor Bus Station located in Jogja. From here, we took the Trans Jogja bus to our hostel. The Trans Jogja bus cost Rp3,000 to any Trans Jogja bus stops along the line (as long as you do not cross the road to another Trans Jogja stop. If you cross the road, you have to pay Rp3,000 again).

The bus ride took us about 35 minutes. The Trans Jogja bus only stops at its designated bus stops due to its specially designed stops. From the stop, we walked about 10 minutes to our Hostel. The orange-yellow building is our Hostel. Edu Hostel Jogja charges at a rate of Rp500,000 for a 4-bed female dorm.

Today, we were headed for Prambanan Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. We took the trishaw to a Trans Jogja stop located in Malioboro Street. The trishaw ride costs Rp10,000 and depends on your negotiating skills.

The 1st President's Residence. Previously, Yogyakarta was the capital of Indonesia.

The Trans Jogja bus stop. Notice the elevated platform? That is where passengers step in and out from the bus.

1) To pay the ticket, enter through the left side.
2) Pay the ticket operator.
3) Ticket operator slides a card through the entrance machine, and you can enter.
4) To exit, go through the right side.

Well, a dishonest person can enter through the right side if the operator is not alert. I exited through the right to take this photo and hurried back to the stop.

Here comes the bus. We took the 3R bus to Prambanan Temple. You can ask the ticket operator on the correct bus number to bring you to your destination. They are very patient in explaining to you. Regardless the language barrier.

The bus ride took us about an hour. Walked along the path that leads us to the entrance.

Yes, it is a long path.

We decided to have our lunch before going inside the temple. The eatery was just opposite the entrance to the temple.

We had nasi soto (rice mixed with soup). Our meal costs Rp19,500.

After the meal, we headed inside Prambanan Temple. The ticket was priced in USD. It costs USD18 per person. There was a student price too. Unfortunately, the card is not for the visitors. One slot the card inside the machine and enters. Only the paper ticket is kept by the visitor. We were also required to wear a sarong.

As I walked inside, I was stunned by the splendid form of the temple. Prambanan Temple is dedicated to the 3 great Hindu divinities - the Creator (Brahma), the Sustainer (Vishnu) and the Destroyer (Shiva). It is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia, and is one of the largest Hindu temples in Southeast Asia.

The following photos are the structures of the temple.

We exited the temple about 4.45pm after walking around for about 1.5 hours.

Then, it was a walk back towards the Trans Jogja bus stop.
