So, right after our walk in
Prambanan Temple, we were headed back towards the Trans Jogja stop. Along the way, we stopped to buy Martabak. It is stuffed pancake which has minced meat, egg, garlic and onion.
We waited for the Trans Jogja bus which was there in less than 2 minutes. The bus has got an air freshener inside.
We alighted from the bus at Malioboro Street. We had our dinner at one of the stalls along the road.
Lesehan = eating food on the floor.
We had gudeg, fried rice and fried duck.
Here is our yummy-oily-licious martabak. It has green chilli inside! If you can handle spices, this is not a big deal.
The duck meat is really tough. Did not manage to eat much of the duck.
Our meal costs Rp48,000. I did not think the price was worth the meal.
After dinner, it was time to shop in Malioboro Street! Malioboro Street is filled with souvenirs like batik clothes and paintings, bamboo handicrafts, puppets, miniature of trishaws, keychains and clothing accessories. You have to bargain to get a reasonable price.
We bought a box of famous local delicacy - Bakpia Pathok for Rp17,000. It is a slightly moist version of the 'tau sar piah' (bean paste pastry) from Penang Island, Malaysia. There were fillings of different flavours such as cheese, chocolate, strawberry and green bean. It is lovely to try a local delicacy but it is not a delicacy I will shout about.
Busy Malioboro Street.
At about 8.15pm, we heard a procession approaching. As it was the eve of Eid Mubarak festival, there was a procession going on where the people was repeating the phrase 'Allahu Akbar' - an Islamic expression that means God is Great.
The 2nd procession.
The 3rd procession has a tortoise.
The streets were filled with people and the skies were filled with fireworks till 11pm.
Happy Eid Mubarak!
