02092010 - Today, we are taking the Great Ocean Road Trip! It's part of the YHA package we stayed in. Hence, the 2.5 days we stayed in Melbourne. And what a great coincidence there was a flight to New Zealand then. The bus was really punctual at 8am. In the bus, I sat at the last seat and took lots of photos as the bus whiz past them. Great building scenery!
We passed the small town of Geelong. The driver was explaining the history of Geelong as he drove. In the past, there was a dilemma in choosing either Geelong or Melbourne as the capital of Victoria. The people in Geelong used to give wrong directions to visitors who wanted to go to Melbourne. Finally, Melbourne won the title as capital of Victoria. Melbourne has million in population but Geelong is just less than 500,000.
We reached our first stop on the tour. Stepped down from the bus and was hit by the cold air. There were benches and tables to put the food. As part of our package tour, we were provided breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, there were Chipsmore cookies, coffee or tea. I guess this was a pre-provided spot for all tour buses because all buses stopped there.
We were back on the road and stopped at a fishing village where we saw Kookaburra.
Next stop was Koala Cove where we saw lots of koala bears sleeping. There were many trailers in the park too. Good spot for trailers!
Saw this in the toilet. Wonder why 'syringes' are part of this? The first thing I thought was did they support drugs? And then I realised that there were probably people who need medication like those who are diabetic and need insulin injection.
I tried having my photo taken with the birds but they were too quick.
We stopped at Apollo Bay Town for lunch. We had a choice in choosing ham, egg or salad sandwich. I chose ham and it was filling! There were lots of funny sculpture in the park where we had lunch. I even sat on one of them!
After the 15 minute walk, we were headed to 12 Apostles. Which has left 8 Apostles. They are actually rocks formed from the forces of nature. Named Apostles from the story in a Bible.
There were many different formations of rock. This is call the Razorback.
There was a beach nearby too. So, I hurriedly went down the steps to go to the beach. We were almost running out of time.
This is a London Bridge rock which has an interesting story behind it. The 'bridge' collapsed few years back. A man and woman was stranded when the bridge collapsed. Was in the media. Turns out the man was having an affair with the woman. What a laugh!
It was a definitely a Great Ocean Road trip!
It was night when we reached our hostel. What a day!
