We started our trek at 2am. And reached the peak at 7.25am. Yes, close to 6 hours. And I will tell you the reason why. For the last 800m to the peak, I took 2 hours because the path was made of loose stones. For every foot I climbed, I slide down half a foot and have to hurry on the next foot before I slide down further. Trekkers I met the previous day discouraged me heavily because of the shoes I wore. I was wearing rubber shoes. They were not trekking or hiking shoes. So, when I hiked up the path, my shoes were filled with loose stones, and it made my trek difficult. But I persevered. I told myself I could do it. During the last 800m, mental strength was very important.
And I did it.
This was how the path look like. As I was the last to climb up, I was the last to climb down. My guide held my hand and we literally cruised down the slopes.
Gunung Baru just erupted again.
That is me, the trekker.
We were almost on our way down, back to the camp.
For breakfast, we had a hearty meal of pancakes. It was so filling. At about 10am, we started our trek downhill.
The last view of Mount Rinjani from our camp.
The green green grass we trekked through.
Next stop for lunch. It was a meal of fried noodles.
After lunch, it was a trek on flat land. What a change it was from the past few days.
At about 4pm, we reached our campsite to stay for the night.
The porters getting water from the nearby waterfall. The porters and the guide washed themselves, but we dare not. Because it was still cold for us.
That night, I slept with a smile on my face, having to conquer Mount Rinjani, despite the demotivations. I was at peace.
