The Story
22012025: Breakfast at the hawker centre near our hotel. This is one of the good points of staying in this hotel. It is very near Whampoa Hawker Centre. Variety of food and affordable too! Our breakfast is made up of toasted bread and hard-boiled eggs and hot coffee. Most of the days are that.

After breakfast, the first visit is the Botanical Garden (by bus) where we went inside the National Orchid Garden. Singapore's national flower is the orchid. The Botanical Garden is a UNESCO World Heritage. Unfortunately, our focus was only the Orchid Garden and we spent half a day in there. I think one would need many days to appreciate the entire Garden.

I requested my sister to take a shot of me in front of the clock and the signboard of National Orchid Garden. I love the background.

There is a research labarotory where one can see how orchids are cultivated and how different breeds are created.

We received a brief introduction by my sister's friend about the National Orchid Garden and which places we should check out.

How nice that there is a Cool House in the orchid garden and we could cool ourselves down for a bit.

We were walking behind a group of tourists who had a guide and we heard the guide showing a monkey orchid.

There are a number of venus flytraps in the Cool House. Some are as big as my head.

I read the information provided on the features of an orchid and when I saw a giant carved orchid that is missing a feature, I pointed it out. There is no landing lip. How are the insects going to land on the orchid? This is a false representation of a real orchid.

As we were walking towards the exit, I noticed that there are a lot of tall trees in the Botanical. I wonder how old are they.

Then, we took the bus back to our hotel and lunched at a hawker food centre.

For dinner, we met up with my sister's friends who brought us Druggists. We had pizza with lup cheong and pork floss for toppings. Lup cheong is Chinese sausage. So good pizza! And prawn paste chicken (har cheong gai) with lime and sriracha sauce. Fried chicken was tasty and I don't remember any strong taste of prawn.

After dinner, we had a beer adventure at The Beer People where there were odd flavours in beer. The beer tasted like any beer but the smell was the one that one has to pass first before sipping the drink. We tried Musang King Durian ale, Kaya toast stout and pineapple pale ale. I am not a great fan of durian so the smell was weird for me to sniff in a beer! I just did a quick search for The Beer People to search for the price of the beer and the place is permanently closed! What a shame!
