Sabah : Part 1 - Loitering in Kinabalu Town

In May 2011, I did a climb to South East Asia's highest mountain - Mount Kinabalu located in Sabah, East Malaysia.  I was determined to climb it for 2 reasons:

1) The Mountain is in Malaysia and it will be embarrassing if I do not conquer the mountain in my own backyard.

2) It gets more expensive climbing the mountain as the place is monopolised by a single company. So, the lodge on top of the mountain has tripled from 2008. I cannot imagine how the price will increase in the future.

I organised this trip. Got a contact of a Mr Leong Kee Fook whom was a really good choice. I was lucky to get him. Here are his details for anyone who is interested in touring Sabah - Mr Leong Kee Fook (016-8226633 / keefook2@yahoo.com). We paid RM850 per pax for 3 persons. So, the more persons in a group, the cheaper it gets.

I like my hair style in May 2011. Hehe.. It was a night flight, and got reprimanded by my sister for travelling so late (but it was cheap - AirAsia - only RM50!) We bunked in at my sister's place! I am so lucky! Lucky to have a sister who stays in the East! Yay!

We visited Gaya Street Tamu. Tamu means market. This place reminded me of Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur.

Terrapin for sale. I think it's RM45.

Had Dim Sum during one of the mornings. Dim sum is a style of Chinese food prepared as small bite-sized or individual portions of food served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. I am not a fan of 'Dim Sum' very early in the morning because I don't think my stomach has opened its factory yet but it was quite tasty.

We went to Lok Kawi town after the 'Dim Sum' breakfast, and saw the large headscarf. It actually represents the head-hunters that lived in the area. Nothing much in this area except my relatives who live here! Heee..

After Lok Kawi, we visited the Handcraft Market. This is the view behind the Handcraft Market. This spot is actually for the Philippines Market but it only opens in the evenings.

This lady sells the stuff cheap. So, I bought my must-have tourist T-shirt. I bought a T-shirt that states the route to Mount Kinabalu.

Drove back after the market visit. The blue blue sky is so awesome.

Our Kinabalu climbing package starts the following day!
