Oceania : Part 7 - A Day at Milford Sound!

070910 : Today, we started our drive from Te Anau towards Milford Sound for our Nature Cruise. It was  a pretty morning. We started early as it was a 2-hour drive to Milford Sound. We booked a 9.45am cruise but the road was closed due to a slip in the mountains. So, we had to wait. While waiting, we went to Hollyford Camp. We spoke to one of the owners. Turns out that Hollyford Camp used to be a temporary accommodation for the workers who build the route to Milford Sound.

We waited in Milford Sound till 9am. On the way to Milford Sound, we stopped by at Marian Lake It was highly recommended by the owner in Hollyford Camp. It was so blue, gorgeous and stunning!

Hollyford Camp!

Waited again when we reached. It was about another 30 minutes wait.

Here is our Cruise Counter. We were initially booked for the 9.45am cruise but due to the road closure, the morning cruise was cancelled and we joined the afternoon cruise at 12.30pm, which was much expensive, but we didn't need to pay the difference!

Telling the history of Milford Sound from the Maori point of view.

While waiting for our cruise, I walked around and snapped photos of Milford Sound.

Our cruise started sharp at 12.30pm! There was a commentator giving out information about the surroundings.

Managed to get a glimpse of seals and dolphins! All these can only be seen on the Nature Cruise, unlike the Scenic Cruise which only sees the scenery and takes a shorter time period.

Waterfalls where we collected the water and drank. I volunteered to hold on to the glasses to collect the water! The water was cooling and refreshing.

After the cruise, walked back towards our car. It was about a 2 hour drive back to Te Anau YHA. Snapped this scene randomly and thought it was too good to be real.

Kea birds are in abundance. They are always looking for food.

This is a shot taken at one the fields next to the road. We stopped. Because it was just so tempting to roll on the grass!

We stopped at Mirror Lakes for a bit but I didn't see anything mirror-ish.

Hi there,

Thank you for posting such beautiful entries. The content of your blog is very attractive & interesting. Thought I was just reading it but it felt as if i was there literally.

If you don't mind sharing, how much does it costs for a week's trip to Oz/New Zealand? RM800 is for one way or return?

Keep blogging more.

Hello Richard! Thanks for your comments. The RM800 is for one destination for return. I have updated my entry so it won't be misleading. Anyway, I did not go for a week. I went for about 13 days. Which in total costs me about RM4800, and that is because I bought souvenirs too. Hope it helps! :-)

Hi Again. Thanks for replying the comments. 13 days trip for RM4800 is pretty much affordable. Plus with the fun & excitement you guys had. I shall plan such trips too.

How do you actually plan your trips?

Hello! It's affordable because we stayed in YHAs and we ate in picnics plus we cooked too. We usually do our research on the Internet. :-)
