Tibet & Nepal : Part 12 - Deurali and ABC

Today is 13 Sept. The days felt slow in moving on. We wake up to see a first glimpse of one the mountains - Machhapuchhare Mountain. Machhapuchhare (pronounced as 'mah-cha-pu-char') means fishtail. My friend brought some food from home, and it was instant porridge. Hot food is welcomed at any time of the day. I also noticed the Nepalese calendar in the dining hall, and memorise the Nepalese numbers. Who knows it may come in handy?

Destination - Deurali (3230m above sea level)

We ordered Gurung Bread for breakfast. Gurung is one of the ethnic group of people in Nepal. This bread is fried, no fillings and slightly oily. It is crunchy.

Ascending without stoned paths and poo. We have left the villages. When I trekked upwards and avoided the stoned steps and walked on the earth, the guide asked me if I didn't like the steps. I said - Not at all. It tires me.

We reached our stay at 11.40am. From Deurali onwards, we always reach the camps before lunch. And we got bored and not knowing what to do. Luckily we brought cards. So, it's good to bring cards or books next time! Yes, next time because I am planning for Everest Base Camp!! Woohoo!! So, play cards, talk, learn new games from other trekkers and eat.

That night, we did not have electricity, so we relied on kerosene lamp.

It is 14 Sept. We woke up to the cloudy skies. Can't see any mountains in sight.

Destination - Annapurna Base Camp (ABC - 4130m above sea level). We were supposed to go to Machhapuchhare Base Camp (MBC) which was before ABC, but because the journey back was in a rush (only taking 3 days) and due to me being slow, plus the hours of doing nothings if we reach early, we decided to head for ABC and hence, we have an extra day to trek back.

This is MBC. This was after 2 hours of trek, and it was only 9.45am. I was still full from breakfast. With all the food that we have been eating, we did not feel hungry during the trek.

The misty trail. There are no more stoned steps. It's just a flat trail and also slightly upwards.

At 12pm, I reached the entrance to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). I don't know what is the significance of the two sticks (I put up the photo with the single stick only), but I feel like it's entering the territory of ABC.

ABC, I see you. But you are so misty. ABC is surrounded by the Annapurna Mountain Range, but because of the mist, nothing was in sight. We crossed our fingers hoping for tomorrow to be a clear day!

I walked out to see what was in store. And I saw 2 locals playing ball. As I walked further, I saw memorials of trekkers who passed on trying to conquer Annapurna Mountains.

Our dinner on ABC. I put in our orders. I told the guide and the assistant guide that I am the new assistant guide's assistant! :-)

In the evening, the mist slightly cleared and we could see a little view of the mountains, but we are still waiting for tomorrow to be a better sight.
