You would have noticed that all my currents posts are about my hiking and trekking trips. Well, my sister did tell me it would be nice to talk about my hiking and trekking trips, which also does not cost much, basically the petrol and the food.
So, this day on 31032012, my friend organised a trip for me to go to Bukit Tabur located in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur. I was very touched that she organised this for me, and in this hike, I made many new friends.
Bukit Tabur is a hill not for the faint-hearted. It may sound easy being a hill, but there has been injuries and deaths because there are rock climbing involved. It scared me so much to start this trip, but I told myself I need to do this. I need to cross this hill of my 'To-Hike' list. All I have to do is be really careful.
The start of the trail somehow does not look like an entrance, unless you are familiar with this area. The initial start of the trail looks like any normal trails on a normal hill.
After 10 minutes of hiking up the hill, I saw an amazing view of the Klang Gate Dam! Wow!
There is a number painted to represent each level. Here is Level 4. As you can see, till Level 4 is still okay. But the rocks from level 4 onwards become pointer.
The view at Level 4 was gorgeous. My friend told me that the 2 peak at West trail of Bukit Tabur looks like the backbone of a Dragon. It is even named 'Tulang Belakang Naga' which means 'Backbone of a Dragon'. The view gets more gorgeous as we climbed up to the top.
At Level 6, the view was even more breathtaking. Level 6 has limited space when there is a lot of people. Hence, be careful when trying to get a good shot of the background. You have to stand on uneven ground which are just huge rocks.
Going up to Level 7 and that is the best view. Because after Level 7, the mist started to form. Sat on the rocks for about half an hour to enjoy the cool air and the scenery.
I was informed that the challenge starts from Level 9. This is where the rock climbing starts. This is where care and caution is of utmost importance. It looks like a piece of cake in the photos but many injuries and deaths have happened from one slip.
There are ropes to pull yourself up. There are little corners in rocks for you to step on. It is not easy because there are not enough corners for you to step on the rocks as the rocks have been smoothen by the rain and the sun.
I think this is Level 11. Everyone was gathered here. It turns out that the rock climbing was more difficult. Photos can be deceiving. It doesn't look this easy. My heart was beating so hard standing there, and even worst when I was climbing down.
Because this is how it looks like. There is a rope tied to a big rock. One has to sort of 'abseil' down, and your feet blindly trying to feel any corners to step on.
When it was my turn, one of the guys said - "I will read my prayers first before going down". That frightened me even more.
You have to push yourself forward against the opposite rock and hold a metal bar screwed to a rock. Then, stretch your leg to climb up. Just tell yourself not to look down.
Thankfully, we are not going back the same way.
Us at the peak of the hill! Yay! Success! :-) There was no signboard that states we are at the peak of the hill.
Then, we walked down to see if there is anything to look forward to. We saw a group of hikers having a meal. We went up because there was a good view, and going back requires turning to the left.
After an hour break, we walked back through a small estate. The soil was wet and hence, slippery. In some sections, I sat down and slide because I have no idea how to walk without falling.
The last part before the exit was a small rubber tree farm. We could hear dogs barking. Serious loud barking.
The group who went to Bukit Tabur. Look at the hill in the background. The many peaks we climbed up and down. I was so thankful to be back on the ground safely.
